Phares: Taqiyya and Jihad

Thursday, July 30th, 2009

EMET's Speaker of the Truth for 2009 Walid Phares posts on the Counter-Terrorism Blog today about Taqiyya and the North Carolina Jihadists recently arrested. He makes some excellent points regarding the homegrown jihad. Two key issues raised by Phares need to be highlighted: On 9/11, these jihadists were between the age of 10 and 13. Who over the decade indoctrinated them,... »

Bolton: Crunch Time on Iran

Wednesday, July 29th, 2009

From the always worth reading John Bolton, comes another piece on Iran, Secretary Gates recent trip to Israel and the ever approaching likelihood that it will be a nuclear power. It's all worth reading, but I think your take away is this: Mr. Gates’ mission had extraordinary significance. Israel sees the political and military landscape in a very inauspicious light. It... »

Defining Nuclear capability

Tuesday, July 28th, 2009

Continuing on a theme I touched on in the post about the German BND's Iranian Assessment, comes this editorial from the Washington Times regarding Secretary of State Clinton's most recent revision of what it means to be a "Nuclear power": Asked by NBC's David Gregory if the effort to keep North Korea from going nuclear had failed, Mrs. Clinton answered, "No,... »

Pertez: Obama’s Chutzpah

Thursday, July 23rd, 2009

From the New Republic: Maybe you weren't offended by Obama's advice to Israel, via some 15 American Jewish leaders, that it had to "engage in serious self-reflection," as if it took its perils frivolously. But I know many Democrats who are; they're just a bit intimidated to say so. What message did the president think he was giving the... »

Hotels and Radical Islam

Tuesday, July 21st, 2009

An interesting article in the Wall Street Journal (H/T NRO), on the subject of why exactly Islamist terrorists like to target hotels. The answer, of course, is ideological: Nor would any international hotel dream of privileging one faith over another. By contrast, under the radical Islamic worldview Muslims are entitled to special privileges. This worldview provides the underlying principle for such... »

In Memory of Alan Stern and in Defense of the State of Israel

Sunday, July 19th, 2009

After a long and heroic struggle with cancer, my husband's kid brother, Alan Stern, died on Wednesday. Twenty-five years ago, he was told that he only had six months to live. I remember riding with Alan, and his amazing wife, Annie, during those days after the initial diagnosis in our car back from the NIH, in Washington. Alan... »

More on Intelligence Matters

Thursday, July 16th, 2009

Good friend of EMET and Speaker of Truth James Woolsey was interviewed on the subject of "Assassinating" Al-Qaeda leaders by the Washington Times, which is worth giving a listen to. He addresses a number of good points, which also go to the misunderstandings that many people have about covert-intelligence matters. He also covers getting off foreign oil towards the end... »

German Intel Denies Previous Report on Iranian Nuke

Thursday, July 16th, 2009

The BND is now disowning the published report by Stern which I linked to yesterday, regarding a potential Iranian nuclear weapon within six months. The Jerusalem Post reports today, that their requests for clarification with the BND led to a "four-to-seven-year" timeframe. So what happened? Did Stern get it wrong, and misconstrue what their source was telling them? Possibly, but... »

Targeting Human Rights Abuses in Iran

Wednesday, July 15th, 2009

From WINEP comes this article for a post-election program to target Iran's myriad of human rights abuses. Including: Governments must demonstrate to Iran's repressive leaders that although dialogue may continue, "business as usual" will not. It is critical that Iranian dissidents know they are not alone in their struggle. Iran, where national honor and pride are highly valued, will not be indifferent... »
